Nice to Meet You!

A Word About Me

grok [grok] Slang (verb)—to understand profoundly and intuitively; originating from science fiction writer Robert Heinlein’s novel, Stranger in a Strange Land.

Ever since I can remember, I've been toying with this concept of profound understanding. Is it possible to truly know anything in its entirety? Is such comprehension something I will ever be able to achieve? If so, or even if not, what knowledge will I pursue?

I’ve come to believe that no matter how narrow their focus, one person will never be able to grok even the smallest concept, because there is always another layer of complexity underneath. Yet despite this disheartening conclusion, my passion for learning has only grown. It’s a strange contradiction, that in spite of, or maybe because of, this impossibility, I only want to know more. To me, the fact that there are infinite mysteries to uncover only means that there will always be something more to discover.

I am studying Cellular, Molecular, and Developmental Biology at the University of Washington, and broadening my understanding of the world through UW's Interdisciplinary Honors Program. I hope to go to graduate school and be a scientific researcher. To professionally question and explore would be a dream come true.

Realistically, true learning means discovering how to continually ask a more comprehensive “why?”

I’m incredibly excited to delve into the many questions ahead of me.
